Key Stage 1 Science

The Hive science activities allow pupils to learn through exciting first-hand practical experiences, providing opportunities to work scientifically, through scientific enquiry.

Choose two activities from KS1 activities to make your own programme for your day visit.

  • Amazing animals - Find out about the animals which live at Hive by meeting them in person .Curriculum links: Y1 Science (Plants, Animals including humans)
  • Exploring pond habitats (April-October) - Collect & identify animals from one of the Hive ponds. Find out about life cycles & food chains. Curriculum links: Y2 Science (Living things and their habitats, Animals)
  • Exploring woodland habitats - Explore under the logs and leaves to collect and identify some of the invertebrate animals which live in the forest and discover what they eat or what eats them! Curriculum links: Y2 Science (Living things and their habitats, Animals)
  • Forest plants sensory trail - Enjoy fun interactive activities using your senses to explore and learn about the plants in the forest. Curriculum links: Y1 Science (Plants, Animals including humans, everyday materials and seasonal changes) Y2 Science (Living things and their habitats, Animals including humans)

Informed children about habitats, taught the children how to look after animals. Great use of scientific vocabulary.
